1. Meet the Team – Like the start to any new friendship, the first step is an introduction and we can’t wait to meet you. During our first conversations, we’ll learn more about your budget, location preferences and the size and style of home you’re hoping to build. We pride ourselves on personalized service, professionalism and extensive homebuilding experience – all of which ensure happy homeowners. View team bios.

  2. Choosing your Location – Herrington Homes is an established builder within multiple premier communities in the Wilmington area and connected with some of the best realtors, so we will happily help you choose a great location. And if it’s a custom lot you’re interested in, we ‘ll inspect the home site, advise on orientation/positioning, and take care of logistics like lot clearing if necessary.

  3. Selecting a House Plan – Every home begins with a great plan. While we already have an extensive collection of plans to choose from, we can also work with you to either modify a plan you supply or help draw a dream plan from scratch with the help of our designer. Either way, custom tweaks are made to ensure your particular wants and needs are reflected.

  4. Design Selections  - Working one-on-one with co-owner, Mary Johnson, in our Design Center, the next step is selecting your home finishes. With over 25 years of experience, Mary knows design and greatly enjoys working with each and every customer’s unique tastes. In addition to leisurely browsing all your options, you also have the opportunity to take samples with you to review in private before making final selections.

  5. Preconstruction  - It’s during this phase that we finalize your house plans and the custom home finishes selected in our Design Center. We’ll also take care of administrative tasks like ordering surveys and obtaining all permits and approvals necessary to start building.

  6. Construction – After receiving a building permit from the county in which your home will be built, we will quickly begin the construction of your new home. Build time varies, but most homes are completed within 4-8 months.

Move-in & Customer Service – Approximately 1 month prior to closing and move-in, we will schedule two walkthroughs to ensure your home is delivered to our mutual standards. Following move-in, your home, and any questions/concerns you have, remain in our care for the length of your 1-year complete home and 10-year structural warranty.
